Celebrity Stylists Talk Hair Cut Trends
Posted by: andrew.bueno on April 12, 2006

People want to get a well-known stylist who has worked with the celebrities. We adore those celebrities, and we love their perfect hair, so we always trust the celebrity hairstylists!

Frederic Fekkai, the hairstylist for Ashley Judd, Debra Messing, Jessica Biel, Sandra Bullock, and Barbra Streisand, comes from the less-is-more school. He believes hair should be simple to wear and simple to take care of. "Your stylist should be doing all the work for you," he says. He's thrilled to see a more natural texture coming back to hair. Three fall looks he loves:

A Lift at the Crown
Just a little lift at the crown to enhance volume, you can do it by applying mousse directly to the roots, massaging it in and finger styling.

Cascading Waves
Use a medium-size curling iron to create the look of soft, cascading waves, along with a wave-enhancing spray. Concentrate the bulk of the waves to the lower half of the head, just below the jaw.

Side-Swept Bangs
The look of longish, side-swept bangs has been and will be hot for a while. A good cut with graduated long layers is needed, you should be able to finger comb the bangs in place after the cut.

Sally Hershberger is famous for her modern shag hairstyle. (And for her $700 haircuts.) She serviced: Nicole Kidman, Courtney Love, Meg Ryan, Winona Ryder and Michelle Pfeiffer. She loves piece-y layers and hair that's just a touch out of place, which is perfect for her hipster clientele. Here are two new haircuts she approves of:

A Shorter Do
Shorter haircuts, create reminiscent of a pixie look, only funkier, more urbane. It's freeing and super low-maintenance. Just style with hair gel is plenty. John Frieda Frizz-Ease Styling Gel is recommended.

A Soft Perm
Need to try on a look of variable movement?  The new soft perm will do. With the soft perm you can expect a tousled "just got out of bed but look amazing" appearance.

Tippi Shorter, whose clients are Michelle Williams of Destiny's Child, Kimora Lee Simmons, Vanessa Williams, and Fantasia of American Idol, is a California girl at heart. She likes "hair that can blow in the wind as you speed by in your convertible, then fall back into this incredible style." She's known for her excellent cuts and soft, touchable styles. Here are two trends she adores:

Super-Size Bun
The new bun for this season is extra large and perfect for both straight and wavy hair. Tippi starts with a side part, using a special cocktail of Pantene Pro-V Texture & Shine Defining Pomade mixed with Pantene Pro-V Smooth & Shine Anti-Frizz Serum to smooth it out, then slips hair back into a low ponytail, rolls hair under and secures it with bobby pins.

Invisibly Layered Bob
This looks like your traditional chin-length bob, says Tippi, but when you get a closer look, you'll see it has a lot of long layers, making it ideal to accentuate with pomade if you like - or you can allow it to hold its shape naturally.
