The Convertible Hairstyle with Bangs
Posted by: Candygirl on Wed, May 24th, 2006

Hair tools you will need:

  1. Carving comb
  2. Coloring kits
  3. Cutting comb
  4. Thinning shear

Before: Flat color. Imbalanced proportions. Top-heavy.

  1. Begin high-lights off the side parting. Using quarter-inch zigzag sections to create dimension.
  2. With first foils close to the root, apply 10-volume developer. Bleach-paint to ends. Foil-placement complements cut design.
  3. Round of head: place second foil directly next to the first. Follow cur vature of the head, using zigzag parting technique.
  4. Baliage technique, using random sections, blends strong highlights with softer color gradations.
  1. Using the carving and cutting combs together, comb hair from the back side-panel toward the middle of the head shape. Then use channel side of the razor th remove weight, not length.
  2. Work up to the occipital area; use the same technique to complete the entire back panel.
  3. Moving to front side-panel, work on a diagonal to remove weight from the sides. Overdirect hair toward the back of the head.
  4. Placing hair between fingers for firmer tension, remove hair using the channel side of the carving comb to create soft fringe over the ears.
  1. Blending sides to the back, hold sections to remove extra weight diagonally behind ears.
  2. Using thinning shears, at the roots of very fine sections to remove unwanted weight. Note: thinning hair at root decreases bulk where hair is thickest. Continue technique around head shape.
  3. Low side parting: start from the flat of the head using the straight edge of curving comb. Carve from inside section outward, curving toward the back, to create open section and jagged edges.
  4. Holding the carving comb like a pencil, take away weighty front section, carve from inside toward the face for directional swing forward.
  1. To remove excess length: Overdirect section back, retaining for ward length.
  2. To remove length and create jagged edges: taking horizontal top sections, whittle back and forth with the carving comb.
  3. For more open texture and blending with side-panel: using point-cutting technique, go straight in with shear tips to preserve length.
  4. To further break up weight: allow small section to curve in fingers. Chip into it at natural Bend. Note: this creates volume, as shorter pieces support longer hair.

This style can be found in Technical Volume 37!

I like this!!!
I make my hear:
After shampooing and conditioning, the hair should be sprayed with leave-in conditioner and styling product. At this point, you should use your blow-dryer and dry the hair, directing the airflow slightly upward and toward the back of the head as you go. Use a round brush to direct the hair back, and dry the hair to a mostly dry state. At this point use a small amount of smoothing serum on the fingers and palms and spread it evenly through the hair. The hair can be finished using a wide-tooth comb to create a clean look and left to finish drying naturally.
